CHILI COOK-OFF RULES1. Registration will open at 10:00 AM. Cooks Meeting will take place at 11:45. Judges will make rounds for ingredient check directly after the cooks meeting. Cook Off will begin at noon. Turn in will be at 4:00 PM.
2. Traditional Chili is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, cooked with red chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients.
Beans and non-vegetable fillers such as rice and pasta are not allowed.
3. Non Traditional Chili is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, and/or vegetables cooked with chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients. Non Traditional chili may be any color. Beans are optional. Preference is not given to either cut, ground, shredded or cubed meat.
4. Beans may not be pre cooked, beans can be presoaked. Nothing larger than a bean may be put in the turn in cup.
5. The entry fee will be $25.00 per category entered. Contestants may enter more than one batch of chili/beans, and may enter as a team or individually. Clever team names and chili names are encouraged
6. All ingredients shall NOT be pre-cooked and prepared prior to the event. The chili is to be cooked onsite.
7. All contestants must provide their own heating apparatus.
8. All cooking is to be done in a sanitary manner.
9. Each individual or team is responsible for cooking no less than one gallon of chili and turning in one quart of chill for judging. Judging bowls will be supplied.
10. Each chili entered will be assigned a number by the judging committee, and each contestant is responsible for turning in his or her chili by 4:00 p.m.
11. Judges will vote for the chili they like best based on the following considerations:
Appearance, Aroma, Texture & Flavor.
12. Each participant's chili may be distributed to the event guests, but only after an individual or team has submitted their chili to the judges. People's choice will take place directly after turn in for judging. Bowls may be purchased at the registration tent. With the purchase of a bowl, voting will be allowed for people's choice award.
13. The Best Chili Award will be determined by the Judging Committee. The People's Choice Award is determined by the public. The public will be entitled to taste each participant's chili that would like to be entered in the People's Choice. Contestants are not required to participate in People's Choice. The decisions of the judging committee are final.
14. First Place Prize - Traditional Chili, Non traditional Chill & Beans:
70% Payout & Slate Cutting Board. Second Place Prize - Traditional Chili, Non Traditional Chili, & Beans: 30% Payout & Wooden Cutting Board. Third Place Prize - Traditional Chili, Non Traditional Chili & Beans - Wooden Cutting Board. People's Choice Award: Cash received from bowl purchases & Wooden Cutting Board. Showmanship Award - Wooden Cutting Board
