Chilham 11 mile walk

This is an walk of 10 miles, that starts from the historic village of Chilham, that explores the wonderful surrounding countryside, whilst also passing through the ancient King's Wood, as well as Perry Wood.
Leaving the car park, this clockwise circuit heads along to Dane Street, at which point we join a byway, that turns South to King's Wood, which is situated in the heart of the Kent Downs AONB. Our route crosses through a gladdening stretch of the forest, believed to be named after King John, who enjoyed hunting here, whilst visiting his daughter at Chilham Castle.
At Molash, we cross the busy A252, as we will be too early for a drink in the George, to shortly reach the remote St Peter's church, affectionately known as the "Barn Church". Next up is a stretch that a few of us recently followed on the "5 churches walk" heading over open fields, passing Wytherling Court and onward to Shottenden.
Entering Perry Wood, the Pulpit located at the Mount gives a great panoramic view over the landscape, whilst the nearby Rose & Crown is handily placed for post picnic lunch drinks. All that then remains on this enjoyable circuit is the return to Chilham, where the Woolpack or the White Horse offer the chance of post walk socialising.
