At this interview training workshop, you will learn how to adapt your practice to ensure that you are creating safe spaces, respecting boundaries, and providing meaningful participation when working with young people involved in the legal system.This workshop will provide practical tools for professionals who work with young people as clients or as witnesses in legal processes. There will be particular focus on how information can be gathered from young people in a manner that respects and honours them as individual rights bearers.
Attendees will learn skills that will assist them in working with young people involved in family processes.
At this workshop, you will learn how to:
• create a safe, trauma-informed, culturally-aware space for an interview
• create an Indigenous-informed safe space for Indigenous children and families
• build rapport with young people
• invite and encourage young people to share their views
• ensure young people understand how and why their views are being shared and used
• assess capacity and ability of each young person
•access the Child Rights Toolkit and other resources you can start using right away
