About this Event

As Ukraine marks three years since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the war continues to have devastating consequences for the country’s most vulnerable—its children. Prolonged exposure to traumatic events—ranging from air raids and the destruction of homes and schools to the loss of family members, forced deportations, and life under occupation—has subjected millions of young Ukrainians to unimaginable hardship, leading to severe psychological trauma. Preventing this generation from becoming a "lost generation" is now an urgent priority.

This special panel discussion will bring together leading experts and advocates to examine the far-reaching impact of war on children and explore critical responses from legal, educational, and humanitarian perspectives.

Welcome remarks: Dr Marnie Howlett, Departmental Lecturer in Politics in the Department of Politics and International Relations and Associate Member at Nuffield College, University of Oxford.

Speakers:

• Oleksandra Romantsova, Executive Director of the Centre for Civil Liberties in Ukraine and Nobel Peace Prize co-recipient (online);

• Inna Hryhorovych, MBE – Headteacher of St Mary’s Ukrainian School;

• Tetyana Nesterchuk, Barrister and Arbitrator at Fountain Court Chambers;

• Oksana Lebedeva, Founder of Gen.Ukrainian (online).

Moderator:

Kseniia Iaremych, Ambassador for Gen.Ukrainian.

The event will serve as a vital platform to raise awareness, exchange insights, and strengthen international solidarity in the fight for justice and support for Ukraine’s children. Join us for an engaging discussion on how we can work together to mitigate the devastating effects of war on young lives and ensure a future of hope and resilience.
