This is an essential conference for students, professionals, academics, practitioners, and young people.
Key note speaker Dr Laura Abbott, University of Hertfordshire
Laura is a dedicated qualitative researcher with a strong commitment to making a difference in the lives of incarcerated pregnant women and mothers. Her research has focused on experiences of pregnancy and early parenthood in Pr*son and expanded into various facets of midwifery, sociology and criminology.
This conference will be in person at in the Academic Block at the University of Chichester, Bishop Otter Campus, College Lane, Chichester, PO19 6PE.
The event will run from 9:30am - 1:00pm (registration from 9:00am).
- Visitors can park by using the Pay by Phone facility. Instructions and tariffs on how to do this are on the car park signs on our campuses. They will need to use a smart phone in order to do this.
Call For Papers
In line with our conference theme ‘Childhood, Inclusion and Society: Belonging and Mattering’, we would like to hear as many different voices as possible and welcome papers from students, professionals, academics, practitioners, and young people. This can be in the form of an individual or group presentation; leading of a conversation. These can relate to empirical research, discussion or position piece relating to the conference theme.

Presentation and Leading of Conversation:
- Presentations can be individual or group. 25 minutes will be allocated for each presentation (15 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for questions).
- Leading of a conversation will take a discussion format including the posing of questions for the audience to discuss and respond to. 25 minutes will be allocated for these Sessions.
- Possible topics for presentations, conversations could include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Why is belonging and mattering important?
- How can we support children and adults to feel that they belong/matter?
To apply to present a paper, or lead a conversation at the conference please send the following information to Sandra Lyndon ([email protected]):
•Name of presenter(s)
•Institution of the presenter (if appropriate)
•Email address(es)
•Title of the presentation, or conversation
•Abstract (100 words) - to include a short introduction to who you are; the aim of your presentation/or conversation; an outline of what you will be discussing; and how this links to the theme of mattering and belonging.
•Type of presentation: individual/group presentation; or leading of a conversation
•Type of presenter – please indicate whether you are a student, practitioner, young person, or academic
•When you submit your paper please make sure that you book a place on Eventbrite for each presenter.
Criteria for selection of papers:
•Relevance to the theme of the conference
•Clarity of focus
•Originality of the research, discussion or position
•Consideration of ethics where relevant
The call for papers closes on Monday 7th October 2024 at 5 pm
(successful applicants will be notified by Monday 14th October 2024).
