About this Event
Child Poverty Follow up Engagement Session
What is the purpose of the engagement session?
- The Anti-Poverty strategy is being created with the combined effort of Derby’s Anti Poverty Action Group, (formerly the Cost of Living Group) which formed a city wide collaboration as a response to the height of the Cost of Living Crisis back in 2022. The group set up a range of initiatives to help alleviate the hardship from increased poverty caused by crises on the most vulnerable and those in-need in the city. The strategy demonstrates the partnership approach we have adopted to tackle poverty in the city and identifies areas of action we want to prioritise next.
- Whilst the daily headlines have now moved on from the cost of living crisis. Derby, as many other cities across the country is still dealing with the far reaching consequences of crisis which has led to rising inequalities, an increase to 4.3 million children living poverty (relative), and a projected 12m people living in absolute poverty in the UK by 2024/ 2025.
The Anti-Poverty strategy will need a city wide approach and is being developed to look at the how Derby can do the following things to alleviate poverty now and in the future. It aims to:
- Protect people in poverty
- Prevent people falling into poverty or further into poverty
- Provide pathways out of poverty
- Promote and campaign for long term change to Government policy and practice
In this session we will be looking specifically at gaps and opportunities we have to make a difference in partnership across all sectors to the high levels of child poverty in Derby.
