The session will focus on the recognition and clinical response to child physical abuse, including guidance on appropriate medical evaluation and the formulation of diagnostic impressions. The training will also provide a brief overview of the medical aspects of child sexual abuse and neglect, offering participants a broader understanding of how pediatric expertise supports collaborative efforts in protecting children and ensuring their well-being.
Presenter Kristin Belsaas, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician with subspecialty certification in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Originally from Rapid City, Dr. Belsaas is pleased to have recently returned to her hometown to begin her medical practice. She earned her medical degree from the University of South Dakota, completed a residency in Pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic, and went on to complete a three-year fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
