SWING MEETS LATIN: A TRIBUTE TO THE PALLADIUM BALLROOMDuring the late 1940s, swing dancers and jazz enthusiasts crowded venues on both the East and West Coasts of the U.S. to experience the 'Mambo Craze' sweeping the nation. Latin American musicians such as Machito, Mario Bauzá, and Chano Pozo introduced jazz musicians to rhythms like the cha-cha-cha, rumba, and samba, sparking a fusion of Latin music with jazz, bebop, and swing. Nowhere was this fusion more vibrant than at New York City's Palladium Ballroom, where the mambo found its true voice.
This event aims to capture the spirit of the Palladium Ballroom and pay tribute to the birth of the mambo. To make the night truly special, we’ve assembled an outstanding lineup of ten jazz musicians who will perform three sets of 1940s jazz infused with Latin American rhythms and sounds - The Siberian Hotheads Palladites.
Jitterbugs, salseros, dancers of all kinds - join us for an evening out of the ordinary!
