About Chicago Balinese Gamelan
Chicago Balinese Gamelan is a music and dance ensemble that creates high-intensity, exciting, quality performances that introduce and engage the public with the culture, music and dance of Bali, Indonesia. At its fall concert at Epiphany, audiences will enjoy dances composed and choreographed by renowned artists Ketut Gede Asnawa and Putu Oka Mardiani, whom are CBG's artistic advisers, thrilling traditional instrumental works that demonstrates CBG's virtuosity, and the esteemed legong dance-style performed on the ensemble's newly acquired set of four-tone gamelan angklung instruments.
Founded in 2017, CBG's first rehearsals began in the studio of High Concept Labs, who selected CBG as a Fall 2017 Sponsored Artist. CBG is a community ensemble and nonprofit organization whose mission is to create transformational cultural experiences that build community and expand individual perspective. The organization's vision is to be a recognized international resource for learning and experiencing Balinese performing arts and culture. CBG rehearses year-round at its studio at MANA Contemporary in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood and performs regularly.
Chicago Balinese Gamelan is partially supported by a CityArts Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events and the generosity of individual donors.
