Alan Goldsmith from Knights & Bytes plays wildly exciting chess and has had many games published in books and magazines. He has been a leading chess player and teacher in South Australia for many years and was State Champion in 2016, his fourth State Championship win. He has been writing the Sunday Mail chess column for over 30 years and been the President of the SA Junior Chess League for over 20 years. His business, Knights & Bytes, involves teaching chess in about 20 schools and designing and supporting databases for all manner of businesses and institutions.
Saturday & Sunday meet Alan in the kidszone for a Simul! A ‘chess simul’ is where a strong player takes on a dozen or more players simultaneously, each with their own board. The simul master moves to each board and replies almost instantly to the move of the opponent before moving to the next board. It is a fabulous way to play a famous master and we have been lucky over the years in Adelaide to have players like World Champion Boris Spassky take on 40 opponents, all at the one time.
So come and play some of SA’s best players, several who have been State Champions multiple times. Prizes for any winners!!
There will be Giant Chess all weekend, Puzzle/Problem Solving tables set up for beginners & advanced with prizes available.
The Sunday Simuls will feature some of SA’s top women players and girls in particular are very welcome to take part.
