CHESS: Family Class

"The game of chess is not merely an idle amusement. Several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired or strengthened by it… For Life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain, and competitors or adversaries to contend with."

This course will primarily benefit those students who have little to no experience with the game of chess. While the material will eventually scale in complexity, the overwhelming majority of the course is dedicated to elementary and introductory principles; still, more advanced players will find value in the course too.

This class will range in topics, from the basics of the game to more advanced strategies:

• Basics: Learn the names of the pieces, how they move, and how to win a game.
• Tactics: Learn how to identify winning patterns on the board.
• Endgame play: Learn how to play the endgame, including difficult endgames

Come and enjoy this class as a family!
Adults are invited to bring a child with them.
Both Child and Adult MUST PAY the REGISTRATION FEE.
Children must be age 10 and older .

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
chess board and pieces

CLASS DATES: WEDNESDAYS 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26

CLASS TIME: 6-8pm

All Lee County Lifelong Learning classes must meet a minimum student enrollment or the class will be canceled and a full refund will be issued.

If a class is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, a make-up class will be held.

When registering, please use a current email that you check often in order to receive important class messages, date changes, or cancellations.

REFUND POLICY:
A refund will be allowed up to ONE-BUSINESS DAY before the class start date.
