Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) return to Brindleyplace to present their annual free Cherry Blossom Concert, in collaboration with Ikon.Ikon Gallery and Ikon Shop are open as usual.
Please note this takes place outside Ikon Gallery on Oozells Square.
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon performance amongst the blossom trees in Oozells Square.
The music for this year’s event follows the life cycle of a tree, from using living trees and plants as instruments, to the refined sound of the violin:
John Cage (1912-1992): Branches (1976) for percussion and amplified plant materials
John Cage (1912-1992): Waltz (from Trio) (1934) for percussion ensemble
Pierre Boulez (1925-2016): Anthèmes II (1997) for violin and electronics
Carola Bauckholt (b. 1959): Specht [Woodpecker] (2007) for percussion ensemble
David Hindley (1933-2018): Corn Bunting Fanfare (1994) for brass sextet
Steve Reich (1936): Music for Pieces of Wood (1973) for percussion ensemble
Ikon Gallery and Ikon Shop are open as usual. Yorks Cafe at Ikon serves a range of delicious food and drink.
