About this Event
About Cheltenham's Post-Apocalyptic Book Club:
Have your family and friends ever accused your taste in books of being a bit...dark?
Do you secretly find it a little bit exciting imagining what would happen if society as we know it were to fall apart?
Are you used to choosing your footwear based on its suitability for 'when the zombies come'?
Then you're in the right place!
Join us for a friendly monthly discussion of post-apocalyptic, dystopian, and related genres of books.
Please note that the Facebook group is our primary organising space, please join that if you haven't already: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1323463735036503/
We will have some pre-set questions to help guide discussion, but also allow the conversation to flow.
We will meet once per calendar month in a central location to discuss a pre-set book.
Attendees must be 18 or older. Other than that, everyone is welcome to join.
Please do let the host know if you have any accessibility needs in order to participate.

This month we will read and discuss And Then I Woke Up by Malcolm Devlin.
Book synopsis:
"In the tradition of Mira Grant and Stephen Graham Jones, Malcolm Devlin’s And Then I Woke Up is a creepy, layered, literary story about false narratives and their ability to divide us.
In a world reeling from an unusual plague, monsters lurk in the streets while terrified survivors arm themselves and roam the countryside in packs. Or perhaps something very different is happening. When a disease affects how reality is perceived, it’s hard to be certain of anything…
Spence is one of the “cured” living at the Ironside rehabilitation facility. Haunted by guilt, he refuses to face the changed world until a new inmate challenges him to help her find her old crew. But if he can’t tell the truth from the lies, how will he know if he has earned the redemption he dreams of? How will he know he hasn’t just made things worse?"
