CHECK MATE is back!!After the success of our last event, We are thrilled to bring you another night of strategy and chess battles . Do you have what it takes to defend the king and fight your way to victory? 🏆
Whether you are a master at chess or just enjoy an occasional game, Check Mate is the perfect place for you to show your skills, meet and chat with fellow player and enjoy a drink or two. It’s time for your move, are you ready? 💪
⏰Date & Time ⏰
When: Friday 22th November, starting at 7:00pm.
Where: Down the Rabbit Hole, Imsida
Entrance: €5 per entry
How it works :
Five tournaments will be running side by side, each at a different table and catering to different skill levels (more on that in a bit). One game is played at each table at a time.
👑 At the beginning of the tournament one random player at each table is chosen to begin as king of the hill.
⚔️One by one, the other players at the table challenge that player for the throne.
💭Each player starts with ten minutes on their clocks and the challenger chooses whether they are laying as black or white. There are then three outcomes:
1. If the king wins, they stay on as king and the next players steps up to be the challenger. The defeated challenger goes to the back of the line of players waiting to challenge the king.
2. If the challenger wins, they become the new king! They take their spot on the throne and the other players now step up one at a time to challenge them, as they did with the previous king. The defeated king goes to the back of the line of players waiting to challenge the king.
3. In the case of a stalemate, the players switch colours and play once more. In the case of a second stalemate, the player with the most time left on the clock wins.
At the end of the night, the player at each table with the most wins walks away with a prize! Watch this space to find out what that prize is 👀
As for the difficulty levels: there will be 5 tables, 2 of which are at Beginner level, 2 of which are at intermediate level and 1 of which is at expert level. The levels are defined as follows:
🐣 Beginner: This is for people who don't play regularly or who do play regularly but have never had an ELO score over 1000 points on any platform in any format.
🐤 Intermediate: This is for people who have an ELO score on any platform in any format which is between 1000 and 1500.
🦢 Expert: This is for people who have an ELO score over 1500 on any platform in any format.
