Calling all true crime fans and local history buffs! Learn about the notorious Walpole prison escape of 1982 with local true crime author, Dan Zimmerman, on Thursday, October 23 at 6:30 pm in the Simoni Room at the Morrill Memorial Library. Dan Zimmerman, author of "Shots in the Dark," will share his research into, and close personal connection to, the infamous escape of Leroy Chasson in his newest book, "Chasson's Run: Walpole Prison Break, Norwood Hospital, and Ill-Fated Love."
ABOUT THE BOOK: On September 6, 1982, convicted murderer Leroy James Chasson made a daring break for freedom from the Massachusetts Correctional Institute-Walpole—one of the most infamous, escape-proof prisons in the country. But this wasn't just any prison break. It was a meticulously planned, five-year effort, made possible by an unlikely accomplice—Kathleen MacDonald, Chasson's former pen-pal turned wife.
Copies of Zimmerman's book will be available for purchase at the event. Dan is a former resident of Norwood of fifty years, and graduated from Norwood High in 1978.
