About this Event
Description
- Charm City USA. Besides its charming streets, quaint neighborhoods, up and coming locales, and gritty history, Baltimore also offers a wide, eclectic, and ethnic food experience to those who come to visit. Owing to its location on the Chesapeake Bay Baltimore offers visitors an internationally recognized seafood culinary experience. But if you think it's all crab legs, crab cakes, and crab fries, you would be dead wrong! Baltimore was a leading gateway for German immigration during the 19th century. By 1863, the year President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, one in four of Baltimore's residents were transplanted Germans and spoke the tongue as their first language. Blacks, whether fleeing from slavery before the Civil War or settling in for a fresh start after the abolition of slavery, also played a major role in shaping the city's food scene. Being found in a Mid-Atlantic state but south of the Mason-Dixon line, can lay claim to a blend of Northern and Southern American traditions. Join us and experience Baltimore through its flavors!!!
- This is a walking and eating tour of the city. We will purchase small items to taste or larger items to share with the group at several stops, while at others it will be up to you to purchase anything you might want to taste. We happily can cater to individual preferences but please note this is not a kosher, vegetarian, or vegan friendly tour.
- Part of the cost of the tour is to cover the expense of purchasing items for all participants to try. You do not have to participate and you do not need to purchase anything, though we highly recommend coming hungry and with an open mind and mouth!
- We will provide utensils, napkins, plates, wipes, sanitizer, and other necessary items but note some food may require hands!
- This tour features treats and eats from many different ethnicities and cultures including local creations, southern staples, classic American fare, and more!
