Join us for the July Charlottesville Reading Series event, featuring poet Andy Fogle, poet Annie Woodford, and musician Nahlij Corbin. This in-person event will be free and open to the public. We recommend arriving early for the best seating.
Andy Fogle is the author of Mother Countries, Across from Now, and seven chapbooks of poetry, including Arc & Seam: Poems of Farouk Goweda, co-translated with Walid Abdallah. He’s from Virginia Beach, spent years in the DC area, and now lives with his family in upstate NY, teaching high school. He is poetry editor at Salvation South.
Originally from Henry County, Virginia, Annie Woodford studied poetry at Hollins College. Her first book, Bootleg (Groundhog Poetry Press, 2019), uses the life of VA-NC banjo revolutionary Charlie Poole as its organizing principle. Her second book, Where You Come from Is Gone (2022), is the winner of Mercer University’s 2020 Adrienne Bond Prize and the 2022 Weatherford Award for Appalachian Poetry. Her micro-chapbook, When God Was a Child, was published by Bull City Press’s Inch Series in 2023. She was awarded the Jean Ritchie Fellowship in 2019.
Fusing indie, folk, rock, and blues with deft songwriting, Nahlij Corbin invites listeners into the back rooms of his psyche with each verse, offering an unashamed picture of himself that somehow still leaves you with more questions than answers. By asking his fans to take a constant emotional journey with him, Nahlij develops a personal relationship with every person who spends time with him through his music.
