Charlotte Mullins invites readers on a tour of the art of the British Isles, from a bat-infested Ice Age cave in Wales to the Neolithic Brú na Bóinne tombs in Ireland. She visited Barbara Hepworth’s tiny tropical studio garden in St Ives, Phoebe Anna Traquair’s epic apostolic church in Edinburgh, took mural tours of Derry and Belfast, and held a fragment of Roman pavement in her hand in a field in Rutland. Charlotte Mullins explored artists' studios, museums, and storerooms, as well as war memorials, a hospital, and a nursing home. Through these visits, she reflects on what these experiences revealed about British and Irish art, questioning whether they reinforced her thinking or prompted her to reconsider the canon entirely. Mary Loudon will interview Charlotte Mullins. Charlotte Mullins is an art critic, writer, and broadcaster. Currently art critic at Country Life, she was formerly editor of Art Review, V&A Magazine, and Art Quarterly. She has published over a dozen books on visual art.
