Professional concert band the Charleston Wind Symphony performs music by Forbes, Grainger, Milhaud, Reed, Thurston, Yagisawa, & Schwartz.Solidly in the tradition of the renowned John Philip Sousa Band; the great US Military Bands; and professional bands in Dallas and Tokyo, The Charleston Wind Symphony is a group of approximately 65 professional musicians and music educators from the Lowcountry region—including members who perform with the Charleston Symphony, Charleston Jazz Orchestra, Chamber Music Charleston, area University professors, and music educators. The ensemble performs music of all eras and styles, including original works for winds and percussion, transcriptions from other genres, music for chamber winds, and highly acclaimed new music. The mission of the Charleston Wind Symphony is to promote and encourage the performance of wind band music through artistic music making of quality literature.
