Join us for our first event of 2026 celebrating America's 250th birthday! We will be hosting a local history presentation by Chris Higgins, from Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery Park and Arboretum. In the first month of the year, Chris will share information on "Charleston Firsts". We will find out about notable figures buried right here in Charley West who made local and American history.
Find out who patented a method for building brick roads and built the first brick road on Summers Street ! Who was our first woman State Legislator? WV's first execution by electric chair with the advent of TV, was a national spectacle and in the commotion 2 inmates escaped from Moundsville Prison. What was their story ? Just some of stories that will be told, in what will be an entertaining and informative evening.
"America 250" is a yearlong celebration in 2026 of America's 250th birthday. Check out the Library calendar regularly for more fun America 250 themed events!
