About this Event
There is no more exclusive way to celebrate the evening: under the motto "The Scottish Islands" with a good Scottish single malt and our Scottish Rotary International President Nominee 2023/2024 Gordon R. McInally, we would like to toast to friendship and promote peace at the same time!
The Rotary Club Berlin - Platz der Republik cordially invites you to a convivial evening around the theme of whisky. We may taste a range of high-quality whisky together at the Berlin Zollpackhof (Elisabeth-Abegg-Straße 1). During a break we will enjoy excellent food and Scottish music. We may welcome up to 60 Rotarians exclusively on site in the Berlin Zollpackhof.
Appropriate to this evening, we would like to announce the official DRESSCODE BLACK TIE. Of course, a kilt is also appropriate to the dress code at our Scotland event.
The journalist, philosopher, Berlin lover and culinary expert Juliane Eva Reichert will lead us through the evening. Raised in Leonberg, she moved from her place of study in Tübingen to Berlin in 2012, to the exciting city of the "tumult of possibilities." The "different cultural influences, but also the hard breaks" interest her, and not just in the gastronomy scene. She thinks it's "great that everyone can design themselves how they want here." Even as a child, one focus of interest was recognizably on food, drink and thought. The Stuttgarter Zeitung writes: "The family - father, mother and sister - had long since finished, and at some point everyone got up. Little Juliane remained seated, tasting, chewing, contemplating. Perceiving things closely, fathoming them, thinking them through (...)."
Wolfgang Goldbach (McWulf.de) accompanies the evening on the bagpipes. The fascination for the traditional instrument of the Scottish clans is as old as it is contagious, he says. Through playing and music, Wolfgang is able to satisfy his longing for the raw beauty of Scotland and its wonderful songs. He passes on this fascination to us at the Zollpackhof. Because: "Once you've heard the big bagpipe live, you can hardly get away from its powerful sound: pure goosebumps!"
CHARITY
The Rotary Club Berlin Platz der Republik is a Peacebuilder-Club of the Rotary Action for Peace and is particularly involved in the Rotary focus "Peace and Conflict Resolution".
We support two projects with the complete proceeds of the tasting: First, a peace day of the Berghoff Foundation at a Berlin school, and second, the Berlin organization "Hate Aid," which offers victims of digital violence, among other things, a free counseling service and funding for legal costs.
The President of the German Chapter of the Rotary Action Group for Peace, Chair of the D1940 Peace Fellow Subcommittee and Co-Chair of our Peacebuilder Club Committee, Rtn. Mura Rike Cammann will briefly introduce the projects in the evening.
PATRONAGE
Patron of the whisky tasting is RI President Nominee 2023/2024 GORDON R. MCINALLY, member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry from Scotland, who will be present in person on the evening.
