About this Event

Course Description

Are you drawn to the portrait? If you have ever wanted to try drawing a portrait, without the use of grids and tracing, but by using traditional drawing methods then this is perfect for you. Cindy MacDonald’s workshop will give you an introduction to the materials, methods and techniques that she uses to draw a simple, realistic portrait in charcoal from scratch, including;

· Introducing ‘The Andrew Loomis” method of drawing

· The concepts of values and edges, line and shading

· Measuring and proportions of the head

· Features of the face

· What constitutes a good/poor reference.


The class will be fully tutored and guided, so even if you are a new to charcoal , with Cindy’s guidance you will be able to draw a portrait with a good likeness.

Some drawing experience is preferable.

Materials are not included in this workshop. The material list can be found here.

If you are starting with no materials, you can expect to pay $210 to set yourself up for this workshop. You can order a materials kit at the checkout or in store for the above amount. If you already own some materials or do not wish to purchase pads of the recommended papers, we encourage you to come in store to fill in the gaps.

About the Tutor: Cindy MacDonald

Cindy MacDonald is an accomplished and versatile visual artist whose work captivates audiences with its vibrant colours, intricate details, and profound emotional depth. Born in Sydney, and having spent her life split equally between UK and Australia, Cindy considers Toowoomba her home. Her artistic journey began at a young age, fuelled by an innate passion for self-expression and a deep connection to the world around her. Her love of nature, in particular Australian Fauna harken back to her idyllic childhood in Toowoomba surrounding area. This love, in addition to her faith, continues to be a main source of inspiration to her.

Cindy's artistic style is a fusion of contemporary and traditional influences. Her early appreciation of the Old Masters like Bouguereau, Sargent, and contemporary artists like Richard Schmid have greatly inspired her approach to art, instilling in her a love for experimentation and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of her creativity.

Cindy is a founding and active member of The Toowoomba Studio Art Trail. She has participated in many exhibitions, including: RME Downlands Art show, Fairholme Art Show, Ipswich Art Show, Toowoomba Hospital Foundation, Recovery Futures and Are You Bogged Mate. Cindy has been represented by local galleries and her work is currently represented by The Chapel Gallery in Highfields. Queensland.

As Cindy MacDonald continues to evolve as an artist, her commitment to pushing artistic boundaries remains unwavering. Through her art, Cindy MacDonald invites us to see the world through a lens of beauty, emotion, and endless possibility.

MyArt Studio Booking & Cancellation Policy

Location

The entrance to the classroom is found at 16 Duggan Street, Toowoomba CBD. The classroom will be opened 15 minutes prior to commencement of the class. Tea and coffee facilities are provided, and students have access to the kitchenette and toilet facilities.

Parking

No parking facilities are provided. Street parking in the Toowoomba CBD is at your own expense. Council car parks with 3+ hour zones are available on Annand Street, Water Street, or Station Street. We advise always reading the parking signage for the day and time period you require to avoid fines. Classes with outdoor activities are attended at your own risk.

Materials

Materials are not included in the ticket price. Students are responsible for their own art materials unless otherwise stated. A materials list will be provided by Murray's Art and Framing listing each item that is required for the workshop. It is expected by the tutor that each student will arrive prepared with the required materials. If you have any questions about your materials list, please get in touch with the team at Murray’s Art & Framing.

Fees

Ticket prices ensure that we can provide professional art tutors. Each ticket covers the total duration of the event for one student to attend. Fees do not include art materials. Please book into a workshop at least one month prior to its commencement if possible. This will secure your spot in the class and allow us to confirm tutor bookings. If there are insufficient tickets booked, workshops may be cancelled.

Cancellation of enrolment by you

If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop up to one month before its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee. The remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will be refunded. If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop within 1 month of its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee and the remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will only be refunded if the position can be filled.

Missed Classes

Once a workshop has commenced there are no refunds. MyArt Studio cannot accept responsibility for changes to students' personal circumstances that prevent attendance. Classes missed are the student’s responsibility and are non-refundable. Students are not entitled to a discount or ‘make-up’ class if they miss a class for any course, they are enrolled in.

Cancellations of workshops by us

In the event of a class being cancelled due to insufficient enrolments, a full refund will be given.
