Character Trauma Class

Learn the Master's techniques of the fine art of traumatic character makeup! This is the foundation of realistic makeup and wound creation. Create realistic injuries emulating trauma for Film and TV with the use of coloration, advanced paint techniques and build up in an intimate classroom setting (7 students max). 3X Academy Award-winning makeup artist Ve Neill will be on site to coordinate the class and teach alongside Visiting Instructors.

About this event:

Believable trauma makeup is a required skillset for a Film and TV makeup artist. Using a model, students will get a working understanding of the fundamentals of traumatic character makeup and create realistic injuries emulating trauma for Film and TV with the use of coloration, advanced paint and build-up techniques. Topics covered include:

• The fundamentals of trauma makeups.
• Foundational injuries such as bruises, cuts, scabs and scar makeups.
• Realistic frostbite and sunburn makeups.
• Realistic and creative death makeups.
• The creation and design of 3D build-ups for trauma makeups
• Realistic burn makeups
• Appropriate workplace attire and on-set standards – including co-worker and client communication and collaboration skillsets.
• How to hygienically set up your makeup station and the proper methods and techniques related to your specific brushes and tools.
• Combining creativity and knowledge with fundamental makeup design elements to create film ready designs.

LAB FEE ($85.00 non-refundable)

LMA will be providing all lab material needed in the classroom (covered by the lab fee), but you will be responsible for putting together your makeup kit. We will send you a materials list for items needed outside of the lab materials. Students receive a professional discount at Frends Beauty on the items that they might need.

MODELS

Models will be required on most days. If you need assistance with finding an actor model, please let us know, and we will do our best to assist. The actors will require a modeling fee day rate ($100 a day that students pay directly to them), so please keep that in mind.

PARKING

Parking is limited in the area. It is more of a suburban environment, on Laurel Canyon Blvd. in Valley Village.

We do recommend Uber/Lyft or being dropped off if you can arrange it. Frends Beauty is a block away from the Orange Line Laurel Canyon stop, so public transportation is also a wonderful option.

HOUSING

LMA does not have any housing services set up yet, but Valley Village is a safe area in a wonderful part of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. It’s next to Toluca Lake, Burbank and Studio City. If you have any questions regarding housing or the area, please let us know and we’ll be happy to advise.

HEALTH

Staff, instructors and models are fully vaccinated. The classroom will be setup with current industry standards in regards to hygiene and Covid protocols.\
