About this Event
In this workshop, acclaimed writer Janet Burroway will lead participants in creating memorable characters with emphasis on their unique voice. Burroway will use examples from her new novel, Simone in Pieces, to illustrate how voice helps establish a character's history, desires, thoughts, and emotions. Participants will spend time with playful writing prompts meant to tap into their character's voice.
The workshop will take place from 6:00-7:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to come early for a pre-event Happy Hour at the MiniBar from 5:30-6:00 PM.
Basic admission for the class is $35. Admission plus Burroway's seminal craft book is $50.
Janet Burroway, is the author of (November, 2025; University of Wisconsin Press). She is also the author of , and has written eight previous novels, as well as a memoir, plays, short fiction, children’s books, and more. Recipient of the Florida Humanities Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Writing, she is also the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor Emerita at Florida State University at Tallahassee.
