I turned 18 two months before the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Although I was largely oblivious to that event, I soon afterwards got swept up in the “movement,” pursuing a long career in environmental protection. That journey gave me firsthand knowledge of some of Missouri’s worst environmental tragedies. This presentation will focus on those past mistakes and the lessons we’ve learned from them. It will also explore what, in my opinion, are some of today’s most pressing environmental issues. But most importantly, it will present reasons for hope; and ideas for obtaining a brighter environmental future.
