We’re finally back at the infamous Freo.Social for what will most likely be the most historic Sunday session to date.
For the first time ever, Channel One (UK) performs in Western Australia.
To mark the moment, we host the first sound system gathering in WA’s history, as Red Earth Sound System meets KBI Sound System in one room.
A gathering - not a clash.
A true celebration of sound system culture in WA.
🔊 CHANNEL ONE (UK)
Mikey Dread & MC Ras Sherby
Formed in London in 1979, Channel One Sound System is one of the most respected names in global reggae and sound system culture. Founded by brothers Mikey Dread and Jah T, the sound takes its name from Jamaica’s legendary Channel One Studio, grounding their selections in roots reggae, resistance, and Rastafari consciousness.
From early blues dances to becoming a cornerstone of Notting Hill Carnival since 1983, Channel One has spent over four decades carrying sound system culture across the world. Known for conscious selections, exclusive dubplates, and uplifting steppas, their mission remains simple and powerful:
to break down barriers through reggae music.
This marks Channel One’s first-ever appearance in WA, joined on the mic by MC Ras Sherby.
🔊 KBI SOUND SYSTEM (WA)
Founded in Leicester, UK in 2002 by brothers Prez-I and Tubby MC, KBI Sound System is rooted in Love, Peace & Unity - values shaped by African heritage, community, and lifelong devotion to music.
Inspired by Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti I, Channel One, and dub pioneers like Lee “Scratch” Perry and King Tubby, KBI built their sound from scratch. In 2012, they shipped their custom-built UK sound system to Western Australia, where they continue to uphold and expand the sound system tradition through heavy bass, truth, and community connection.

Red Earth Sound System is WA’s first homegrown custom reggae & dub sound system. Deeply rooted in local community while connected globally, Red Earth has been instrumental in nurturing sound system culture in WA.
As hosts of the night, Red Earth represents both the roots and the future of the culture - creating space for shared sessions, unity, and collective vibration.
