About this Event

What does it take to save a species on the brink? Primatologist Andie Ang has dedicated her life to answering that question—beginning with the rare and elusive Raffles’ banded langur, one of Singapore’s most endangered primates. In this conversation, Andie shares her journey from safeguarding these forest-dwelling langurs at home to tackling the broader challenges facing primates across Asia. From habitat loss to human–wildlife conflict, she reveals the threats our closest animal relatives face, and the hope that comes from science, community action, and a deep commitment to conservation.

Dr. Andie Ang, Primatologist, President of Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore), Head of Species Grant & Impact, Mandai Nature

She is the Head of Species Grant & Impact with Mandai Nature and the chairperson of the Raffles’ Banded Langur Working Group. She is also Deputy Chair of the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group. She has served as President of the Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore) since 2018, overseeing outreach and capacity-building programmes to promote wildlife awareness.

Over the past decade, she studied wild primates in Southeast Asia and continues to work with government and non-government organizations in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam for long-term research and conservation of endangered species. She is also the founder of the Primate Watching online resource, which provides information about where to find every species of primates worldwide.

As part of her research and conservation work in Singapore, Andie received support from several sources, including the Wildlife Reserves Singapore Conservation Fund, Mandai Nature Fund, National Geographic Grant, Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, and the Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) Grant for the Environment. Additionally, she has been recognized for her achievements by the American Society of Primatologists (2019 – Conservationist Award), Singapore Women’s Weekly (2019 – The Great Women of Our Time Award for Science and Technology), Singapore Tatler (2018 – The Generation T Honouree), and Prestige (2018 – The 40 Under 40).
