Champness Hall is one of the biggest buildings in Rochdale and is named after the Methodist minister who funded the building, Thomas Champness. The building is deceivingly large with a maze of back rooms, corridors and multiple stairwells surrounding a large art deco style auditorium at the heart of the building. With the lights off, it would be easy to become lost and disoriented making this location an eerie site to investigate.
The Hall is currently home to a few community projects where staff and visitors have reported seeing dark shadowy figures roaming the corridors with footsteps often being heard too. Furniture has been known to be moved and a grand piano situated in the grand hall has been heard as though playing to itself. Shadows have also been seen in the auditorium moving between the rows of seats up high on the balcony.
