EVENT DESCRIPTION
Greenwich Peninsula’s NOW Gallery and Design District are collaborating with innovative materials studio, Smile Plastics, to reimagine and reuse vinyl from Liz West’s colourful installation on The Tide. The results will be tables for NOW Gallery and Bureau, as well as keyrings for Design Districts tenants. By creating new recycled plastic products, the project will explore how regenerative design can counter waste from displays and exhibitions.

About Kaia Charles Kaia Charles is a cultural projects commissioner and curator whose work is rooted in contemporary art practice. Her work for Greenwich Peninsula involves fostering creative partnerships, bringing the work of emerging designers and artists who establish links with local communities in creative ways.

About Liz West Liz West (b. 1985) is a British artist who graduated from Glasgow School of Art and whose body of work encompasses site-specific installations, sculpture, and wall-based artwork. Liz West has been commissioned worldwide by institutions and organisations including Natural History Museum, National Trust, National Science and Media Museum, London Design Festival, Natural England, Allied London, Grosvenor, British Land, Salford University, Leftcoast, Allenheads Contemporary Arts and Bristol Biennial.
About Roz Barr Roz Barr is an architect. She established Roz Barr Architects in 2010 to undertake a diverse range of projects internationally for private residential, public realm, commercial and culture sector clients, including Selfridges and V&A. Most recently Barr has designed workspaces and interiors for Bureau, Design District’s members club for creatives.
About Emily Skinner Originally trained in Material Exploration and Surface Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design, UAL, Emily has over 13 years’ experience in a broad range of material development for both the sustainable fashion and interiors markets. She has managed innovative and critical materials research and production projects internationally, from the V&A to Boras University, Sweden and is a technical Smart Textiles and materials research analyst for the circular economy promoting emotional durability. Diverse creative industries experience encompasses surface designer, theoretical art and design lecturer, to curator.
Design District Creates
The latest addition to London’s autumn cultural calendar, Design District Creates is a multidisciplinary celebration of the creative sector, taking place in its new dedicated creative hub on Greenwich Peninsula. From 15 September to 17 October, everyone is invited to explore Design District, with scheduled architecture tours led by Open City, pop-up events, food and drink, and art and design exhibitions including Art Block, in collaboration with NOW Gallery. Following the official opening event on 15 September, Design District will host an eye-opening programme of conversations about design, fashion, craft and innovation, featuring leading voices from across the creative industries in the brand new members club Bureau.
