This will be the second walk of our second block of Challenge Trail Training (CTT) walks. (See below for further details about what CTT means...) This is a 13-mile / 21km (1945ft / 593m climb) route taking in three summits of Great Hill, Winter Hill and Rivington Pike. A tough route, but very popular! The aim will be to complete this route within approx. 6 hours, including short rest / snack breaks. What is CTT Block 2?
In 2025 we will be delivering several ambitious long-distance Challenge Trails, listed below:
Ullswater Way - 21 miles – Sun 13th April
Lancashire Three Towers 32 miles – Sat 26th April
Edale Skyline – 21 miles – Sat 24th May
Witton Weavers Way - 34 miles – Sat 21st June
Calderdale Way - 51 miles (over 2 days) - 13/14th Sept
Yorkshire Three Peaks – 25 miles – Sat 4th Oct
To complete some of these challenges, you should be of reasonable fitness and able to walk at a pace of approx. 3 mph (5kmph) on the flat, for up to 12 hours, but if you don't think you are quite there yet, this is where our Challenge Trail Training comes in!
CTT Block 2 is for those who are walking regularly already (at about the 2.25 - 2.5mph mark) over 8-10 miles, but still feel they have a long way to go to increase their speed and distance. If you think that may be you, keep reading...
It's for you if you want to walk regularly, gaining speed over a few weeks.
It’s for you if, perhaps you would struggle to motivate yourself alone.
It’s for you if you want to walk in a group with an empathetic, qualified leader, who will add challenge appropriately and provide a supportive atmosphere.
CTT Block 2 will be our second series of walks over 5 weeks, every Saturday, throughout March.
By building our speed up to around 3mph on the flat, over 5 weeks, we will grow the distance covered from 11 miles (18km) to 19.6 miles (32km) over that period.
