Learn the basics of street painting from award-winning professional chalk artist Katie Bush! This hands-on workshop covers everything you need to get started- supplies, techniques, application methods, basic color theory, and best practices for 2D chalk art. By the end, you’ll have the foundation to keep developing your skills on your own- and maybe even sign up for a chalk festival! No experience required; all levels are welcome. Ages 12 to adult.

Please note that this is an ephemeral art form and we'll be focusing on technique; You'll learn new skills but will not necessarily have a physical artwork to take home with you... But we'll absolutely photograph you with your finished chalk art piece!

There is a lot of hunching over/squatting involved in this workshop. If you are unable to do this, please email [email protected] and we will find a reasonable accommodation so that you will be able to participate.

We will get messy! Bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty, as well as sunscreen and a hat. A gardening cushion is recommended if you have sensitive knees or hips.

Katie Bush is a San Diego–based chalk artist who has been street painting and creating chalkboards professionally since 2013. Born and raised in Atlanta, she holds two degrees in art and has a background in teaching. Her work has been commissioned by major brands including Taco Bell, General Motors, Sephora, Starbucks, Salesforce, Delta, Intuit, and PetSmart. When not rolling around on the ground, Katie is the Marketing Director for Safety Harbor Art & Music Center (SHAMc).
