Join SABA-Austin for its quarterly Chai Chat - A View from the Bench: Trial Tips from a South Asian Judge in Texas. This quarter we'll be visiting with Judge Vik Deivanayagam.
Judge Deivanayagam first joined the Texas bench in 1997 as an Associate Judge for City of Woodway and assumed the bench of County Court at Law #1 in 2017.
He became board certified by the State Board of Legal Specialization in Criminal Law in 2007. The Court’s docket normally consists of a combination of misdemeanor and felonies, as well as, probate, guardianship, and general civil litigation.
In addition to the normal duties and responsibilities of the County Court at Law #1, Judge Vik, also, presides over the DWI/Drug Court Program. It is a specialty court whose mission is to increase public safety by decreasing DWI and Drug offenses and to hold alcohol and drug offenders accountable by the use of : (1) Judicial Intervention, (2) Intensive Supervision, and (3) Immediate and consistent substance abuse treatment. The ultimate goal is the public safety of our citizens and the return of said offenders to a productive and meaningful life in our community.
