About this Event

Passport Series: Lights, Camera, Imagination!

Get ready to explore the world of playwriting and theater with the Passport Series, an exciting eight-week journey into creativity and self-expression! Hosted by Rick’s Place in partnership with The Cape Fear Regional Theater (CFRT), this program invites military kids to unleash their imagination, sharpen their storytelling skills, and collaborate to craft an original play. Led by professional instructors, participants will write, rehearse, and perform their masterpiece for family and friends at the end of the series.

With sessions tailored to two age groups (7–9 and 10–14), this program is perfect for young creators who love storytelling or are ready to discover the magic of theater. Along the way, they’ll gain confidence, hone their voices, and make unforgettable memories!

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Who Can Join: Military children aged 7–14. Age groups are strict to ensure everyone receives tailored instruction.
  • When & Where: Meets every Wednesday for eight weeks at Rick’s Place.
  • Ages 7–9: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Ages 10–14: 5:45 PM – 6:45 PM
  • Final Performance: Participants will showcase their original play for family and friends on the final week!
  • Attendance: Consistent attendance is required to ensure the group progresses together and completes their project.
  • Cost: Free for service members and their families (Military ID required at the first session).
  • Registration: Opens four weeks before the series starts. One ticket per participant.
  • Drop-Off Only: To keep the final performance a surprise and give space for young actors to focus, we ask parents to leave after drop-off.
  • Don’t worry—Rick’s Place property is a great place to kick back while the actors get to work in the Community Barn!

Let your child’s creativity take center stage in this dynamic and supportive environment. The Passport Series isn’t just about creating a play—it’s about inspiring confidence, collaboration, and a love for the arts!
