Botox (2020, 97 min) is a feature fiction film directed by Kaveh Mazaheri, starring Susan Parvar, Mahdokht Molaei, Soroush Saeidi, Mohsen Kiani, and Morteza Khanjani. Written by Kaveh Mazaheri and Sepinood Najian, with cinematography by Hamed Hosseini Sangari, editing by Pooyan Sholevar, and music by Milad Movahedi, the film tells the story of two sisters, Hazar and Akram, who conceal their brother’s disappearance by claiming he has emigrated to Germany. Over time, this lie takes root in Akram’s mind, gradually blurring the boundary between imagination and reality as she awaits her brother’s return. Botox won Best Film and Best Screenplay at the Torino Film Festival, and Best First Feature Film at both the Fajr International Film Festival and the Tirana International Film Festival, with additional official selections at Lux Film Fest, Shanghai, Filmfest Hamburg, Golden Apricot Yerevan, and IndieCork.

Kaveh Mazaheri is an Iranian filmmaker known for his distinctive narrative style that blurs the line between realism and psychological exploration. Before Botox, he directed several acclaimed short films and documentaries, including Retouch, which received numerous prestigious awards, among them five Academy Award-qualifying prizes from the Tribeca, Krakow, Stockholm, Tirana, and Palm Springs Film Festivals. His work often focuses on the silent struggles of individuals within restrictive environments, combining visual restraint with profound emotional depth. Based in France, Mazaheri continues to develop projects that merge fiction, documentary, and new media forms.
Kaveh Mazaheri is an Artist Protection Fund Fellow in residence at the Institute for Advanced Study at CEU in Budapest.
