About this Event
This CEU workshop explores strength-based techniques to assist grieving individuals at varied points in the life cycle. The session begins by exploring the ways that grief is experienced at varied points in life. The session then considers counseling approaches that not only assist grievers in coping with loss but offers possible avenues for personal growth.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Trace the ways that orientations and attitudes toward death change through the process of human development;
- Discuss the ways that development affects the mourning process;
- Define grieving styles and indicate counseling approaches for different grieving styles;
- Evaluate and describe clinical interventions that are appropriate for children, adolescents, middle, and older adults;
- Define Post-Traumatic Growth and delineate counseling strategies that foster such growth;
- Discuss the nature of grief support and death education at varied ages.
- Describe interventive techniques such as bibliotherapy, groups, and ritual;
- Define therapeutic ritual and note four types of therapeutic rituals.
