Join the MidSouth Disaster Relief Committee in an upcoming Disaster Relief Basic Training on Saturday, February 7th, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. We will gather at Trinity Hill Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, to review the steps needed to become a trainer and to prepare for a disaster in your area.
What to Expect:
All volunteers who need to be prepared to respond to the next disaster event to help survivors must have training. This Basic Disaster Response Team (DRT) training covers the foundational training required for a volunteer to respond to a disaster. This training will cover basic roof tarping, cleaning flooded homes, basic assessment techniques, spiritual and emotional care techniques, DRT protocols, and more.
The purpose of this training is to prepare our Volunteers to do good and to do no further harm to disaster survivors. After completing this training, participants will receive the credentials required for individuals and teams responding to disaster events. Participants who successfully complete this training will receive credentials, including a DRT ID badge and a volunteer t-shirt.
Qualifications & Preparation:
All training sessions are open to all people aged 18 years and older. Participants must complete the following:
*Background Check through Sterling Volunteers
*Ministry Safe Sexual Abuse Awareness Training
Verification Requirements:
You will need to bring a Ministry Safe certificate of completion to the disaster relief training to show completion, as well as a valid state ID (driver’s license) to verify that the background check process is complete.
**PLEASE NOTE: Completing the background check and MinistrySafe training PRIOR to attending the Disaster Relief training is RECOMMENDED to receive your ID badge immediately. If you have not previously completed these requirements, contact Disaster Relief Coordinator, Rev. Suzanne Whittaker, at [email protected].
