This workshop is run in partnership with Rocket Nine Solutions and Scott Dunn.Certified Scrum Master Workshop

Our CSM Training prepares leaders, makers, and anyone in between to guide, sponsor, and participate in Agile/Scrum initiatives. At the end of the 2-day CSM class, participants will have gained knowledge of Agile product development, all of the elements of the Scrum framework, and the knowledge necessary to take the certification exam from Scrum Alliance.

Earning your certification is a good step towards understanding Agile and becoming a change agent. Our Certified ScrumMaster class welcomes both beginners whose first day in class is their first day in Agile and veteran Agilists who are looking for ways to get better. Project managers, tech leaders, even people who are not involved in software development have all found value in our certified ScrumMaster workshop.

You can earn 16 SEU’s or PDU’s with this class. For more information on how to claim SEU’s or PDU’s, visit our FAQ page. We also offer a non-certification, onsite private class called Agile For Teams. Contact [email protected] for more information.

*We understand that training is an investment. We will work with individuals on a case-by-case basis to determine a price suitable for both parties.

Why Is CSM Training Beneficial?

Become a force for good

Part of the reason we love our job is that we truly believe Agile is the best way to handle creative projects. Taking the CSM workshop gives students a strong foundation of Agile and Scrum, and will allow them to lead their team as they embark on their Agile journey.

Upgrade your career

As Agile and Scrum become the way of life for organizations, having the certification can make resumes seem more appealing to new prospects and help participants become more valuable to their organizations.

Expand your horizons

Agile is going mainstream; it’s no longer confined to tech teams. Many departments, from marketing to operations to sales, have started to adopt Agile. Becoming a certified ScrumMaster may help those who wish to escape the tech bubble.

Sharpen your mindset

Reading a book can only take you so far; sometimes you need colleagues and certified experts to add to your Agile toolbox. Use the two days of class to immerse fully in the world of Agile and Scrum to increase your fluency.

Earning Your CSM Certification

At the end of the two days, our CST will submit the names of qualified participants to Scrum Alliance and Scrum Alliance will send a link to take the test.

Exam retake policy and associated fees

To pass the Scrum Alliance CSM exam, you need to get 74% of the questions correct. There are 50 questions and you will have 60 minutes to take the exam. Participants will have two attempts within 90 days of receiving the welcome email from Scrum Alliance at no cost. After two attempts or 90 calendar days, the test is $25 for each retake. The exam is an open book, open note test.

Sample CSM exam questions

The Development Team does not sit together and therefore rarely communicates. Due to this arrangement, they tend to segue into deep technical discussions when sharing at the Daily Scrum. What should the ScrumMaster do?

  1. Discuss at the next retrospective for the team to determine how best to address the issue
  2. Assign a technical lead to work with all the developers individually on their issues
  3. Extend the Daily Scrum to 60 minutes
  4. Schedule an additional meeting for technical discussions at another time

The Sprint Burndown Chart can be BEST described as:

  1. An indicator of how much time each member is spending on each task
  2. An indicator of how the Team is progressing towards their Sprint Goals
  3. A tool to track scope changes in the Sprint
  4. A tool to manage what the Team is doing each day

What is a good indicator that the Sprint Retrospective was productive?

  1. Team identified 1-3 actionable items to implement during the next Sprint
  2. Team discussed what worked well and what could be improved upon
  3. Team reviewed metrics from the previous Sprint (burndown chart, velocity, etc.)
  4. Team discussed all of the impediments that were surfaced in the previous Sprint
What do I get with this CSM class?
  • Earn your ScrumMaster certification through Scrum Alliance
  • Two-year Scrum Alliance membership
  • A digital certificate from Scrum Alliance
  • 10% off future Agile Velocity classes
  • Certified ScrumMaster BRAGGING RIGHTS

CSM Learning Outcomes

Through a combination of immersive team-based learning, exercises, and real-world case studies, participants will learn:

Core Values and Principles Behind Empirical-based Process

Learn how Agile is an example of an empirical model and how transparency, inspection, and adaptation fuels innovation and predictable value delivery.

Agile Product Development vs. Waterfall Development

How is Agile different from traditional development and how organizations should think differently in this new environment.

Facilitate Scrum Events

ScrumMasters ensure Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Standup, Sprint Retrospective, and Sprint Review) run smoothly. This section will teach new ScrumMasters how to facilitate Scrum ceremonies with confidence.

Scrum Role Overview

Learn the responsibilities and authority of the Scrum roles (ScrumMaster, Product Owner, and Team) and their impact on traditional roles.

ScrumMaster Role Deep Dive

What does it take to be a good ScrumMaster? This section covers the ScrumMaster’s role, responsibilities within the Scrum team, and the skills needed to become successful.

Create and employ Scrum artifacts

One big misconception about Agile and Scrum is the lack of planning or general organization around work. Learn how artifacts like Product and Sprint Backlog and Burndown charts create visibility and track progress.

Engineering Practices

As a ScrumMaster you not only need to help your team improve their processes but you also need to encourage them to improve their technical practices. In this module we will help you understand how supporting Agile technical practices may help your team improve their overall agility.

Path to Agility

Where does the CSM fit into your overall Agile transformation? If an organization wants to create lasting agility, what needs to happen after training? Our Path to Agility is an Agile Transformation framework that helps organizations understand the entire journey and what it takes to go through the different phases of Align, Learn, Predict, Accelerate, and Adapt.

Who Needs To Attend ScrumMaster Class

The ScrumMaster is the Agile champion of the team and is the defacto expert of Agile (if an Agile Coach is not there). Change agents, Agile champions, leaders, organizations, and ScrumMasters new to their role would benefit from this workshop. We’ve also had the following positions benefit from the ScrumMaster class:

  • Managers
  • Developers
  • Testers
  • Analysts
  • Product Manager
  • Project Managers
