In this class we will go through the mythology and presence in the birth chart, using the participants own charts to delve deeper into the story she tells in our lives.
We will mediate on the Great Mother, and reflect on our own journey to the underworld, how that changed us, made us try to control life to cover up anxiety, and how we can find peace and inner safety in a world that is always changing.

Ceres is the story of the mother and the daughter, two aspects of the feminine, and a profound loss. Together they lived in union and in bliss until one day her daughter got abducted to the underworld by Pluto, and the mother, Ceres, became overridden with trauma causing her to abandon herself and her duty as the Goddess of Grain.

In the Greek culture, the story of her journey became the basis for what we know as the Eleusinian Mystery cult, a path of initiation where the participants sought the divine through secret rites, and that lasted for 1500 years until it was banned by the Christian Roman Emperor Theodosius I in year 392 CE. Notable initiates include Aeschylus, Sophocles and Cicero, and the Roman emperors Hadrian, Augustus and Marcus Aurelius, showing how popular and important these rites were.

They were basically the journey to the underworld, the challenges that this proposes and the ascent back into life. The loss of the daughter, the symbol of an innocent youngling unaware of the dangers of the world and the inherent changeability of nature and life, is what we all go through as we reach adulthood and the bliss of childhood is forever lost.

Ceres is a dwarf planet just like Pluto, the planet of transformation and death, and she mirrors Pluto in the birth chart, telling us something about our attachment style, our needs for sustenance and safety and our capacity to move with the cycles of life, from childhood to old age. She is the grieving one who needs to take time to process when change happens and she can also tell us something about our most traumatic experiences and how we dealt with them.

The teacher is Sol W Jonassen, a Norwegian and international astrologer and healer, who has been collecting and tracking Ceres for 15 years, aiming to expand awareness around this fascinating and very important archetype that resides in our collective and individual consciousness.
