About this Event
Ceremony for Our Land - Performance by IU Music Ensemble
Join us for an immersive music and poetry performance, “Ceremony for Our Land,” on April 6 at the Arts Alliance Center in the Bloomington College Mall. Led by Grace McKenzie and Daixuan Ai from IU Jacobs School of Music, this collaboration explores mindfulness in live music, creating a space for stillness and reflection. The performance is presented as part of the opening reception of the gallery exhibition, “Distant Thunder,” by Artists for Climate Awareness.
Viewing of art and an open reception with refreshments starts at 3 pm. The performance begins at 4 pm. A second performance will be at 5 pm.
Bringing together four artists from diverse backgrounds, the performance invites you to consider themes of land, place, and belonging: What does this land mean to you? How did you arrive here? Who has called it home before you? Featuring live poetry by Wahpe Clifford and Ash Iteska, interwoven with electronic soundscapes and improvised instrumentals, this experience is unique to the moment we share. We invite you to step into this space, to listen, to feel, and to reflect on the land beneath your feet and the histories it carries.
