This course is about creative experimentation with ceramics and glaze. Helen has been teaching and working with ceramics and glaze for 20+ years. Her designs have been featured on The Great Pottery Throw Down and commissioned by companies such as Aberdeen Standard Life and EtsyUK. Her work is best known for its complex melting glazes and quietly provocative design. Helen's breadth of experience is invaluable when it comes to teaching creative ceramics and glaze. This course gives students the confidence to try things out and push the boundaries of material and function in pottery. We make glazes from scratch, learn about oxides, engobes, slip decoration, application techniques, colour and texture in glaze. I also teach hand building with clay and slab construction techniques. Plus we will be inspired by contemporary and historic pottery design. For beginners and intermediate, no experience required.

Hand moulding, slab building, joining, forming with plaster moulds, pots, creative and expressive pots - abstract pieces, glaze recipes using oxides, coloured decorating slips, buckets of chemistry and more!
All materials, equipment and firings provided.
All levels welcome.
You will finish a piece every week and I will fire it for you. There will be a section every week for glaze testing and glaze application of previous week's work. We will be mixing up lots of exciting glaze materials. You do not need any experience, only an experimental mindset.
