About Our Speaker

Chief Sharon McDonough is a skilled leader with over 34 years of progressively responsible experience building and leading teams dedicated to fire, emergency medical services, and 911 communications. Sharon is a highly motivated, engaged problem solver, well-versed in defining and achieving organizational collaboration and performance. Sharon has significant experience in project innovation and management, personnel management, leadership development, policy development, team building, and trending innovations. Before becoming the first female fire chief of the Tucson Fire Department, McDonough was the Director of the Public Safety Communications Department (PSCD) in Tucson, AZ, housing the city's 911 and recently added 311 centers. Serving two law enforcement and nine fire/EMS agencies, the consolidated center manages over 1.2 million calls annually.

Sharon previously served for over 30 years with the Tucson Fire Department, 17 of those as a Chief Officer governing fire operations, training, safety, medical administration, emergency management, public education, and fire prevention activities. In her current role as Fire Chief, Sharon employs a community and employee-centered approach. She focuses on the development and care of staff and the creation and implementation of collaborative, innovative programmatic solutions to long-standing and trending industry issues.

Sharon is an accomplished author, published in professional fire, EMS, police, and communications industry trade journals. Sharon is married to an officer and a mom to two brilliant daughters and an adorable grandson.
