Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Free Tax Help Bay Area is a coalition of organizations that provide free tax help throughout the Bay Area led by United Way Bay Area in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).The VITA program has operated for over 50 years. VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
People who generally make $67,000 or less
Persons with disabilities; and
Limited English-speaking taxpayers
IRS-certified volunteers are trained to prepare these forms.
In addition, they will not prepare:
Schedule E with rental Income and expenses
Schedule D with sales of virtual currency
Form 8936 Electric Vehicles Credit
In-Person Tax Assistance
The Central Park Library will host VITA Tax Help Services twice a week:
Every Tuesday, February 10 - April 14, 2026 at 3-6 p.m.
Every Saturday, February 7 - April 11, 2026 at 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
