About this Event
Goal: Explore how technological developments can come together to reduce energy costs and spur sustainable economic development in California’s Central Valley
We note challenges:
• Electricity prices often exceed 50 cents/kWh in California, squeezing farmers
• Demand is increasing for electricity
• Interconnection queues and supply chains are struggling to keep up
And opportunities that increase the feasibility of localized rural energy systems:
• Battery costs have dropped, enabling rural energy systems to be more economical
• Electrolyzer, green ammonia, and other technologies have advanced
• Electrification is advancing on many fronts
We suggest: Innovative, modern rural energy systems that avoid the cost and delay of grid connection may deliver reliable energy at lower cost if we can bring together business partners with customers and researchers, stimulating economic growth and creating jobs for Central Valley workers.
