About this Event
Description
In this workshop, the PR4 Team believes it is essential to report back to the communities from which we’re gathering content. Our mission is to facilitate discussions within the community, design content, and then return to the community to gather feedback before moving forward with new projects that arise from these discussions.
We will provide an overview on the following;
- The community engagement reports developed through the 2023 and 2024 community workshops for Aboriginal Data Sovereignty and Governance.
- The proposed ideas for operationalising Aboriginal Data Sovereignty and Governance, including what might be needed to support this in NSW
- The launch of the Aboriginal Data Sovereignty and Governance eLearning Module.
Date & TIme: Friday, 15th November from 10:00am to 2:00pm
Location: Kooindah Waters Golf Club, 40 Kooindah Blvd, Wyong NSW 2259, Australia
Morning tea & lunch will be provided!
Key Concepts
Aboriginal data can include our Lore, knowledges, stories, customs, arts and ways of life. It can include any information or knowledge which is about and may affect Aboriginal peoples both collectively and individually.
Aboriginal Data Governance refers to the ways in which Aboriginal people can exercise ownership and control over Aboriginal data, for example, how it is collected, interpreted, accessed, stored.
Note: Although we are currently using the terminology of 'Aboriginal Data Governance' in the context of this project, the PR4 Team does not wish to exclude Torres Strait Islander community members from participating in and sharing their perspectives within this workshop.
Your Data Sovereignty
Input for our workshops can be recorded in a number of ways; attendees can provide their informed consent for audio recordings, note-taking or to express their views of butchers' paper. For more information on how we collect and handle information gathered during our workshops, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Artwork

'Data Sovereignty is our sovereign right to our own data. Our knowledges have existed, been maintained and protected for millenia through cultural practices. Aboriginal Data Sovereignty is the continuation of this practice within a digital age. This artwork represents transferral and sharing of knowledges with message sticks, data lines moving between communities. Knowledges are connected through traditions, community, country and culture.'
