About this Event
Join the Centennial Center of Generations to learn about the historic Lincoln Hills, in honor of its 100th Anniversary and Black History Month. This Gilpin county get away was the largest African American mountain resort west of the Mississippi. It was founded in 1922 as a vital escape from Jim Crow segregation, offering Black families and prominent figures (like Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington) a safe, beautiful mountain retreat for recreation, community, and cultural expression, serving as a vibrant hub and "private kingdom" until civil rights laws opened other destinations.
