Meet the Speaker:
A native of Milwaukee but raised in Minneapolis Minnesota, David Haschka entered the Society of Jesus in 1965. Following completion of Theological studies at the University of London, he was ordained to the priesthood in June 1975. Following ordination, he served three years as an associate pastor at Gesu Parish in Milwaukee and 12 years as a lecturer in Physics, Chaplain, Director of Campus Ministry and Vice President for Religious Affairs at Marquette University. He then served as a college chaplain and parish pastor for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. In 1999 he became Provincial Assistant for Pastoral Ministry for the Jesuit Wisconsin Province and in 2001, National Secretary for Pastoral Ministries and Jesuit Life at the United States Jesuit Conference in Washington DC. In 2005, Father Haschka was missioned to establish a new Jesuit high school in the Twin Cities to exclusively serve low-income families. The intent was to follow the then nascent and unique “Cristo Rey Model” established by the Jesuits in Chicago in the mid 1990ies. In 2007, Cristo Rey Jesuit High school opened in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis. Today it boasts of 1,100 alumni from 13 graduating classes, each and every one of whom graduated with a letter of college acceptance. In 2012, Father Haschka returned for a brief period of internal Jesuit administration and, following the restructuring of Jesuit governance in the United States in 2015, moved back to Minneapolis where he now serves as the administrator of the Markoe House Jesuit Community in Midtown Minneapolis.
