Update on Mikey – A Note to Friends & FamilyI’ve spoken with Mikey’s mother and have her blessing to share this update with all of you. Mikey is now resting peacefully, reunited with his mom, and placed in a beautiful, colorful urn that truly reflects his vibrant spirit.
His family is deeply grateful for the overwhelming love, messages, and support they’ve received. It means the world—but during this time, they are asking for space to mourn privately. Please know your messages are seen and appreciated, even if they can’t respond right now.
To help set some gentle boundaries and share the truth respectfully:
This was not an accident. There is no ongoing investigation. This was a personal decision Mikey made. As heartbreaking as that is, now isn’t the time to dwell on what we could’ve done differently. What matters is how we honor who he was—through all the good, the struggles, and the unforgettable joy he brought into our lives.
I’ve offered to help coordinate a Celebration of Life for Mikey. This will be a gathering to remember the person he truly was and the many lives he touched. If you knew Mikey, you know exactly what he’d want: a celebration. A party. A place to laugh, cry, swap stories, and feel connected through love and memory.
Event Details – Friday, September 20th
Wake: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
First Christian Church
Celebration of Life & Lunch: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
1937 Events & Venue – San Marco
After the wake, two shuttle buses will transport guests from the church to the celebration venue—about 20 minutes north up San Jose Blvd, near downtown in San Marco. These buses will run back and forth throughout the afternoon and can each accommodate approximately 22 people.
At the celebration, we’ll be providing lunch, live music, and a cash bar. The entire afternoon is meant to feel like the kind of wedding reception Mikey would’ve loved—filled with people who cared about him, shared laughs, and unforgettable moments.
If you’re interested in attending or helping out, please reach out or drop a comment (we kindly ask that comments remain supportive and brief). Let’s allow his family time to grieve while we prepare something truly meaningful in his honor.
Thank you all for loving Mikey the way you did. Let’s carry that love forward.
— Travis G. (longtime friend) & Family
