The afternoon will feature music curated from our memories of Dr. J and the music that he loved.
The program includes the spirited and bombastic Florentiner March, the delicate tones of Eric Whitacre's October, Hobbits from Johan de Meij's Lord of the Ring Symphony, Holst's Jupiter to make sure we can hear the horns, and, of course, there is some Grainger in there as well.
Between Pieces we will hear from a variety of people from Dr. J's life, sharing collected memories and stories. The event will culminate with a moment of remembrance, a slight set change, and concluding with our large ensemble piece, Nimrod.
The event will be followed by a reception in the lobby where we can all share our own personal stories and acecdotes of the times spent with Dr. J.
In lieu of flowers, donations to offset costs will be gratefully accepted and all surplus donations will be forwarded to the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the White Rock/South Surrey Stroke Recovery Foundation.
