We're three!

Cascadia Daily News launched online in January 2022, followed by our first print edition published on March 2, 2022. We are tremendously grateful for the enthusiastic support and acceptance we have received from our readers, subscribers, and advertisers. But our long-term success depends on the strength and support of our audience. We are proud to be part of this community, and we strive to ensure our audience feels valued and supported by us.

We are pleased to announce that CDN is the recipient of a grant from Report for America. This grant will fund a portion of the salary of a new reporter who will cover health care in our community, including public health, health care systems, and local health care institutions and providers. The new reporter will begin work in July 2025. You can learn more about this position here.

While the grant provides partial funding, we need community support to fully fund this position. We are extremely grateful for CDN’s community embrace to date, but we also know that subscriptions and advertising revenue alone will not provide the resources needed to support professional local journalism at our current level of service into the future. To ensure this reporter can provide the coverage our community deserves and to work toward our goal of becoming a self-sustaining news organization, we must also rely on local funding through donations from individuals, businesses, and institutions.

To begin this journey, we invite you to join us for a community fundraiser and celebratory evening at the Bellingham Cruise and Ferry Terminal on Friday, April 25, from 5-8 p.m. Your ticket purchase and any contributions at this event will directly fund a health care reporter through Report for America and help us to continue our work at providing fiercely independent, local news in our region.

All ticket purchases include dinner, drinks, live and silent auctions, the debut of a short CDN documentary, and good conversation with CDN staff and community members.
