Come and Celebrate the Windrush Generation in Style with Afternoon Tea and Ska, Rocky Steady and Blue Beat Music.
Although Black people lived in England before the Windrush arrived. The Windrush Generation marked a new era in Black history in England. The Windrush were invited to Britain to rebuild England after WWII and they were successful.
Come and hear some of the Windrush life stories and their contribution to Cambridge City.
Dress Code (Elegant Sunday Best)
13.30: Ska music and drinks reception.
14.00: Tea is served (Caribbean food on 3 tiered plates and tea sets)
14.30: The Tales of Anansi Spider. Poems by Miss Lou and others. Please see example: Puss and Dog poem (
15.30: Ska dancers
15.40: Presenting the Windrush Stories and thanking the participants gifting them with the book and bouquet of flowers.
16.00: Reading excerpts from the Windrush Stories, asking the elders to speak about their life experiences.
16.30: Ska, bluebeat and rock steady party (Rum punch, Caribbean cocktails and Caribbean hot food available to buy)
End 7 pm.
